Many years ago my brother and I owned a sign company. We had a 10,000 square foot building, employees, overhead, everything. A friend showed up one day, said he had a business opportunity, just $29 to get started. I passed on it, but my brother enrolled; six months later he was making more on his $29 investment than we were on our half million dollar investment. After a few months we sold our sign business.   

For a number of years I got sidetracked by the promise of faster, bigger money. I bought into the dazzle of ‘ground floor opportunity!’   I became a top distributor in several companies that over-promised and under-delivered then eventually crumbled because the corporate partner was either under-capitalized or dishonest or just didn’t have its act together.

I was so disgusted with those types of home-businesses that I decided to jump back into traditional business and my wife and I opened a Salon & Day Spa.  We worked very hard and built it up from 4 employees to 40 and actually won an award in our city for “Best of the Best”.

After all these years, my brother stayed with the original $29 business and had grown very successfully with it.   He pointed out that what I was really looking for had been sitting under my nose the whole time.  I told him I had modest goals and limited time. I just wanted to make enough to cover my house payments.

Equally important, and much more exciting to me, was seeing so many people also moving through the ranks and attaining their own level of success. I love that!  We’re having a blast. I’m very thankful I put ‘get-rich-quick schemes’ behind me and finally recognized that this opportunity really works.
